Irrigation Development Helps Farmers In Zamboanga Del Norte

In barangay Labakid, municipality of Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte, the Dohinob Communal Irrigation Project (DCIP) has been established. The CIP is a grant from the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) under the ARCDP or Agriarian Reform Communities Development Project to the ARB community in the area. It has a total cost of P28.7 million, funded through the DAR by the World Bank. DAR provided for 95% grant and 5% counterpart by the Irrigator’s Association.
Engr. Ryan Monleon reveals there were a number of problems the project encountered. “Mostly it was the issue on right of way but with the assistance of the different Local Government Units (LGUs) and government agencies like the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Department of Agriculture (DA), we were able to solve these. The beneficiaries are happy with the CIP, they can plant twice a year.”
Bicol Region’s First

The Regional Convergence Initiatives (RCI-5) in Bicol recently held its 1st quarter meeting at Casa Basilisa in Guinobatan, Albay to assess the accomplishments for the previous years and plan out activities for the current year and discuss issues and concerns. The RCI is composed of officials of the Department of Agriculture, Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Interior and Local Government and representatives of Local Government Unit with the DA’s Regional Technical Director Edgar R. Madrid as the regional focal person. The Convergence initiative was conceptualized to develop and operationalize a common framework for sustainable rural development that will facilitate the convergence of the resources of the participating agencies to maximize the impact on countryside development.
Rural Development Graduates Convenes For The 1st Convergence Scholars’ Congress

Determined to produce a frontline of Rural Development Managers, the National Convergence Initiative for Sustainable Rural Development (NCI-SRD) conducted the 1st Convergence Scholars’ Congress for the graduates of the NCI-SRD Convergence Scholarship Program or the Master in Public Management major in Rural Development (MPM-RD).
As an initiative of Batch 1 Scholars, the Congress was held last November 11-13, 2015 at Eurotel, Angeles City, Pampanga which aims to produce a national network of rural development workers involved with the policies and projects of the NCI-SRD and to enhance the organizational structure of the National Convergence Initiative through establishment of its mission and vision.
On the Verge Of Establishing A Model Settlement Community

The Regional Convergence Initiative Technical Working Group (RCI-TWG) in Region IV-A Calabarzon will be having its Planning Workshop on Quezon 3 Settlement Project sometime in October this year. In the said activity, the body will be discussing important matters with regards to the implementation of the project.
NCI Takes Center Stage

The efforts of the rural development agencies to mainstream the NCI-SRD as a national government framework have started to draw the attention of the established institutions. In the recently concluded 65th Anniversary Celebration of the Bureau of Soils and Water Management, the NCI-SRD Team was in seventh heaven upon receiving an award which the team didn’t see coming.
